I’ve been wanting to try some healthy smoothies lately, since they can start to get expensive at Jamba Juice. I usually get the fruit only mixes and love them all. I found a Detox Smoothie link on Pinterest which included a lot of great smoothies that are mainly fruit based. Each smoothie makes about 12 oz.
The first smoothie I made was the Antioxident Power Smoothie. It was really easy to make this one. All you need is 1/3 cup blueberries, 1/3 cup raspberries, 1/3 cup pomegranate kernels, and 1 banana. I cut out the 1/4 cup beet juice, since I didn’t find any. Instead I replaced it with water.
The hardest part of making this smoothie was trying to extract the pomegranate kernels from the inside of the fruit. I didn’t think there were going to be enough kernels, but half of the fruit ended up being about 1/3 cup as the recipe calls. I added all the ingredients to my NINJA blender (from Bed Bath & Beyond) with a few cubes of ice to get it nice and cold.
It turned out really good! I used a straw, because it just doesn’t feel right to ever drink a smoothie without a straw. Also, beware, this one does have a lot of seeds in it, from the kernels and the raspberry seeds so don’t be freaked out–just blend the hell out of it! Also, if you want to, you can push the smoothie through a strainer to get the seeds out. Here it is:
I also have made a few others:
Skin Saver (3/4 cup blueberries, 3/4 cup pitted cherries–about 12 cherries, 5 strawberries, 1/4 avocado peeled & pitted, 2 tsp wheat germ–optional, 2 tsp ground flaxseed) — I was unable to find wheat germ, so I left out that ingredient, which the recipe says is optional. I also added a few cubes of ice to keep it cold. This one smelled really sweet, but the taste wasn’t as sweet as the smell–still really good! Here are the ingredients and the results:
Immune System Booster (1/2 cup mangoes, 1/2 cup cantaloupe, 1/2 cup pineapple, 1/4 cup chopped pumpkin seeds) — I didn’t have pumpkin seeds, but I really wanted to make this smoothie. I had never had mangoes before and was excited to use them. It smelled really good and it tasted just as sweet.
I really want to try Natural Skin Tanner, Bone Lover and the Flat Tummy, but I need to buy some more produce and let the papaya I bought ripen. I will update as I make more recipes.
