Hershey Kiss Pies

In our family, we decided that every Sunday at Grama’s we all would try to make something from Pinterest (at least those of us who are on Pinterest).  So I wanted to contribute this week with something I found this morning — Hershey Kiss Pies.

These looked very yummy to me and I thought that it would be a great little snack.  So here’s how we made the Hershey Kiss Pies.

Ingredients:
  • Refrigerated pie crust (thawed)
  • Hershey Kisses (I used regular milk chocolate, but any kind will work)
  • Egg
  • Water
  • Sugar
  • Powdered Sugar

First you should preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Roll out the pie crust on a surface that is lightly floured.  Using a knife or circle cookie cutter, cut out circles from the dough.  I believe our cookie cutter was about 2 1/2 inches in diameter.  The website suggest 2 1/2 to 3-inch circles.

Once you have cut out the circles and placed a chocolate kiss in the center, you can begin to fold in the edges.  First meeting the two sides together and then bringing in the other two sides to form an X.  Pinch together in the middle to keep the pie crust together.

On some of mine I tried to bend down the edges and make a pin wheel.  These ones seemed to keep their shape better after cooking.  Next you should brush each pie with one egg white whisked together with 1 Tbsp of water.  Then, sprinkle on regular granulated sugar to give it some sweetness.  Bake the pies for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees.  After you have finished baking the pies in the oven, sprinkle on powdered sugar for show and bit of extra sweetness.

Overall I thought that these were a cute idea, but since it’s using pie crust, it tends to be a little dry and the Hershey kisses don’t melt like chocolate would normally do.  I think we will try these again to see how they turn out with either a different filling or frosting decorations or drizzle on top instead of powdered sugar to counteract the dry pie crust taste.  Still a really cute idea for Christmas cookies and easy to make!

Enjoy and let me know how you adjusted the recipe filling to see what worked best!
